Tanah Lot- Friday Sep 19

Tanah Lot is a rock  formation that sits just offshore on the western coast of southern Bali. On top of the rock is the pilgrimage temple Pura Tanah Lot.
This is one of the sea temples along the Balinese coastline. At high tide the temple is not accessible so they built an extra temple that is accessible.
In the 1980s, the structure of the temple was crumbling and the Japanese government loaned Indonesia a lot of money to stabilize the structure. Actually, now a portion of the "rock" is artificial and built to withstand the wind and surf.
This is another temple on the site.

Over the weekend we saw many, many roadside "petrol stations". Yes, they sell gas this way, in glass bottles on racks along the side of the road. It gives folks a way to make some money and it makes it easier for folks buying gas to buy it because there are so many "stations". There are actual gas stations, but they are pretty far apart.
