The Bali Bird Park-Sat Sep 20

The Bali Bird Park  is basically a zoo for 250 species of birds. There was also a small reptile center adjacent to the Bird Park. The place was separated into 7 regions: Borneo, Java, Papua, Sumatra, Bali, South America and South Africa. From New Guinea, surrounding islands and Australia comes the cassowary.

These guys are fierce and dangerous. Each foot has a dagger-like claw that can slice a predator open with one kick. Cassowaries can run up to 30+ mph, can jump as much as 7 feet high and they swim!
This was the "owl house." It's a rumah toraja and is from South Sulawesi. Constructed without any nails or pegs, it is slotted and lashed together. Very strong despite odd look.

The cassowary is rightfully considered the most dangerous bird in the world! Each 3-toed foot has a dagger-like claw on the inner toe that is up to 4 inches (10 centimeters) long! The cassowary can slice open any predator or potential threat with a single swift kick. Powerful legs help the cassowary run up to 31 miles per hour (50 kilometers per hour) through the dense forest underbrush.
A cassowary can also jump nearly 7 feet (2 meters) straight up into the air and swim like a champ, so the bird is quite good at fending off threats or escaping danger! That long claw also comes in handy when digging for fallen fruit in the leaf litter.

  2. It could have been the National Zoo or Atlanta Zoo. I know those two have them.
